TROUT FISHING EXPERTS!!!!?
k so i want to get into trout fishing, cuz i read my mag. (feild and stream) and it turns out that there is this river that is only like an hour away from me its called the "Sable River" and it says it is know for its brown trout, (and well since there's brown trout, im pretty sure there are rainbows and others in there too). me and my dad both have fly fishing rods, and we never use them. and for trout, is it easier to catch them with a fly rod or a reg. rod? can i fish for trout in rivers year round? and if i can fly fish, what flies to use? i have NEVER fished for trout before so yah, that's pretty much all thats goin on.
oh yah, forgot to tell you i live in michigan, and tell me some good spots on the sable river, and another thing, i dont have waders, but my dad does.
well im a fly fisherman and with much practice i have found that a properly presented fly is much more productive than spinning or baitcasting tackle (at least for trout) if you choose to use your fly equipment i would strongly recommend getting out in the backyard or a local park to practice the casting. the last thing you want to do is get out on the water and get frustrated because you cant seem to get your fly where you need it. i would also recommend, if you plan on going further with fly fishing (you really should its amazing) that you pick up the orvis guide to fly fishing by Tom Rosenbauer. it is an amazing book that you will learn alot from. (i still am atleast) and as far as waders go... you dont absolutely need them but they are very nice to have. dont go out and spend $400 on a pair of simms, just go to your local dicks or gander mtn and pick up a pair of chest waders for $70. i wish you lots of luck out on the Sable its a very popular trout fishery so fishing pressure might be a little high but i guarantee you will have a great time! feel free to email me with more questions about fly fishing and to let me know about your adventures!
