How do fish swim? and How do birds fly?

I have my physics lab today about the density, and after class my professor gave us a weird question, how do fish swim in terms of its density. and how do birds fly.

Fish use a system of ballasting, similar to submarines to stay at a constant depth. The swimming motion is simple action/reaction. The fish's tail pushes against the water. Either the water moves or the fish moves? In most cases it's the fish.

Birds have undergone several evolutionary adaptations necessary for flight. Most notably the hollow bone structure to save weight and increase rigidity and strength. The wishbone is another adaptation used for powered flight (vs. gliding) that dates back to the dinosaurs.
